A British Airways Airbus A350-1000 aircraft lost one wheel during takeoff from Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada, US, on the evening of 26/1. Despite the incident, the plane continued its nearly 10-hour journey to London, UK, and landed safely.
Video of the event, which was released on 28/1, shows the aircraft accelerating and taking off normally. However, one wheel from the right main landing gear assembly detached and fell to the ground as the landing gear retracted. The aircraft proceeded without further issue.
US officials confirmed the wheel was recovered, with no injuries or material damage reported at the airport. The cause of the incident remains unclear. The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has been informed, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced it will investigate the matter.
The Airbus A350-1000 is equipped with two main landing gear assemblies, each having six wheels. This design allows the aircraft to take off and land safely even if one wheel is lost or deflated.
