Dubai billionaire loses CEO role over Epstein ties

Ahmed bin Sulayem, a prominent and influential billionaire in the UAE, has lost his leadership position at DP World after emails with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein were made public.

On 13/2, the Dubai Media Office of the UAE government announced that DP World, one of the world's largest logistics companies, has appointed Essa Kazim as its new chairman and Yuvraj Narayan as its new chief executive officer (CEO).

These two leadership roles at DP World were previously held for over four decades by Ahmed bin Sulayem, one of Dubai's most powerful and influential billionaires.

Sulayem had been under significant pressure after messages between him and American pedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein were disclosed by the US Department of Justice. In 2015, Sulayem messaged Epstein, recounting a meeting with a girl he "knew two years ago" at an American university in Dubai.

Sulayem described the girl as having "the best sex life with a beautiful body". He messaged, "She was engaged, but now she is back with me".

Republican Congressman Thomas Massie, who reviewed unredacted Epstein files, previously stated that the Department of Justice also appeared to confirm that Sulayem received an email from the pedophile billionaire in 2009, in which Epstein stated he "liked violent videos".

Following the email revelations, two of DP World's largest international partners, Canada's La Caisse pension fund and the British International Investment (BII) group, announced they would halt future contracts with the company. However, on 13/2, after news of Sulayem's departure, BII stated it would continue its investment projects with DP World.

Over the past four decades, Sulayem transformed DP World from a Dubai port operator into one of the world's largest logistics companies. DP World currently operates over 60 ports and container terminals globally.

The Epstein files, which named numerous powerful and famous individuals, triggered a wave of resignations from officials connected to the pedophile billionaire, even though appearing in these documents does not imply criminal conduct.

Epstein, born in 1953, was arrested in New York in 7/2019 on charges of enticing dozens of underage girls, making them victims of abuse, and sex trafficking. The businessman faced 45 years in prison if convicted. Epstein denied all allegations and was detained in a Manhattan, New York prison. While awaiting trial, Epstein died by suicide in his cell in 8/2019.
