The Florida Governor's office announced on 30/3 that Ron DeSantis signed legislation concerning "Commercial Airport Services", which was passed by the state legislature in February. This law, effective 1/7, includes a provision to rename Palm Beach International Airport as President Donald J. Trump International Airport.
The decision to rename the airport still requires approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and completion of related usage rights agreements. "Renaming an airport is a local matter, and the FAA cannot approve this decision. However, we need to perform some administrative tasks, including updating aeronautical charts and navigation databases," the FAA stated.
Palm Beach is a town known for its expansive beaches and luxurious villas. Palm Beach International Airport is only a few kilometers from Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort. When the bill to rename the airport passed in February, Republican lawmakers in Florida stated they wanted to do so because Trump was "the first president to reside permanently in the state."
President Trump, a real estate magnate who often affixes his name to buildings worldwide, consistently seeks to leave his mark across the US through branding campaigns. In 12/2025, the board of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, an arts complex and memorial to the late President John F. Kennedy in Washington, voted to rename the facility "Trump - Kennedy Center".
