"The visit demonstrates Vietnam's high regard for its relationship with Thailand and for the Southeast Asian region. It is also an opportunity for high-level leaders of both countries to engage in extensive discussions on major orientations to effectively implement the new cooperation framework, thereby generating further momentum for bilateral relations", he said.

Thailand is currently Vietnam's largest trading partner within ASEAN. In 2025, total bilateral trade turnover reached 22,1 billion USD, an increase of 9% compared to 2024. In the first four months of 2026, bilateral turnover reached nearly 8,6 billion USD, a 24% increase over the same period in 2025.

Regarding investment, Thailand currently has 797 active investment projects with a total registered capital of 15,4 billion USD, ranking 8th out of 153 countries investing in Vietnam and second among ASEAN nations. Vietnam has over 20 active investment projects, with a total registered capital of approximately 40 million USD.

The two countries hold significant potential for cooperation in supply chain development, transport connectivity, logistics, and Mekong sub-regional collaboration.

"With the important geostrategic position of each country, both sides have favorable conditions to become connectivity hubs for mainland Southeast Asia", Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong stated.

After concluding activities in Thailand, General Secretary, President To Lam will undertake a state visit to Singapore and deliver a keynote speech at the Shangri-la Dialogue from 29-31/5, followed by a state visit to the Philippines from 31/5-1/6.
