General Secretary, President To Lam visits Nam Ninh by high-speed train

General Secretary, President To Lam traveled from Bac Kinh to Nam Ninh by high-speed train, requesting Chinese railway leaders to share their experience with Viet Nam.

Following the conclusion of activities in Bac Kinh during his state visit to Trung Quoc, General Secretary, President To Lam and his spouse visited Nam Ninh by high-speed train on the morning of 16/4, according to TTXVN.

Onboard the train, leaders of Chinese railway enterprises provided General Secretary, President To Lam with a report on the development of Trung Quoc's railway industry. As of early 2026, Trung Quoc's operational railway system reached a total length of 165,000 km. Of this, high-speed rail accounts for approximately 54,000 km, leading the world and comprising over 70% of the global high-speed rail network.

Since the issuance of its Medium and Long-Term Railway Network Plan in 2004, Trung Quoc has rapidly established a railway network connecting major urban areas. This network now achieves a 99% connectivity rate to cities with 200,000 residents or more, with over 130 county-level localities nationwide now having railway access. The total operational length of Trung Quoc's railways has increased from 68,700 km in 2000 to 165,000 km currently, representing an increase of approximately 2,4 times.

By the end of 2035, Trung Quoc plans to establish a modern, high-quality transportation network spanning approximately 700,000 km. Railways are projected to reach 200,000 km, serving as the primary component of this system. This expansion aims to connect all administrative units at county-level and above, border gates, and key infrastructure areas.

General Secretary, President To Lam expressed his impression of Trung Quoc's high-speed railway network development. Viet Nam's leader expressed a desire for both countries to continue strengthening cooperation in transport connectivity, particularly in railways, to foster green development and national growth.

General Secretary, President To Lam requested Chinese railway leaders and enterprises to share their experience, provide support, and collaborate with Viet Nam on the construction and technology transfer for important railway projects in Viet Nam.

In March, during a field inspection of the Viet Nam-Trung Quoc railway cooperation and connectivity implementation in Lang Son province, General Secretary, President To Lam affirmed that bilateral cooperation in the railway sector presents both a need and an opportunity.

The General Secretary, President highlighted that successful implementation and proper management of this cooperation would create a practical space. This would reduce logistics costs and transportation times, promote trade and border economic development, enhance customs clearance capacity, alleviate congestion at road border gates, and connect Viet Nam to the Euro-Asian railway transport network.
