Security camera footage from the Golders Green area of London, England, showed three masked men approaching and setting fire to ambulances belonging to Hatzola Northwest, a Jewish non-profit volunteer organization, in the early hours of 23/3.
The flames erupted fiercely in the night sky, waking local residents with loud explosions. Resident Charlie Richards recounted hearing multiple explosions around 2 a.m.
The Metropolitan Police released a statement: "Officers remain at the scene, and this arson is being investigated as an antisemitic hate crime," adding that some residents were evacuated as a precaution.
Police confirmed they are searching for three suspects. Local police leader Sarah Jackson acknowledged, "There will be a great deal of concern in the community."
Jackson stated, "We will be in contact with faith leaders and increasing patrols in the area during the investigation to reassure residents and demonstrate a visible police presence."
Shloimie Richman, leader of Hatzola Northwest, confirmed four of the organization's ambulances were set on fire, stating they were targeted by antisemites.
Richman said, "Clearly we are concerned this is a direct attack on the Jewish community."
Hatzola specializes in providing emergency medical services and transport for the North London community. According to the organization's website, Hatzola responds to thousands of emergency cases each year, ranging from minor injuries to life-threatening conditions.
Antisemitic attacks have emerged and increased following the outbreak of conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran. The US Department of State also called on its citizens worldwide on 22/3 to increase vigilance due to the risk of being "targeted by Iran-backed groups."
