Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared that the "illusion of wiping Iran off the map shows desperation against the will of a nation making history". His remarks, posted on social media platform X on 22/3, appeared to reference a recent ultimatum from US President Donald Trump.
President Pezeshkian emphasized that "threats" only bolster Iran's unity. He further stated, "The Strait of Hormuz is open to all, except those who infringe upon our territory. Iran will also resolutely confront threats on the battlefield".

President Donald Trump issued an ultimatum, warning that the US would attack and eliminate Iran's power plants, starting with the largest, if Tehran did not open the Strait of Hormuz and cease threatening vessels passing through it within 48 hours.
The White House chief also asserted that Iran sought a deal, but he did not. He declared that the US had completed its objectives weeks ahead of schedule and would "blow Iran off the map".
This marks the first time President Trump has issued an ultimatum specifically targeting Iran's electrical infrastructure. Previously, he stated that US airstrikes would only target Iran's missile and nuclear facilities, military objectives, and command and leadership systems.
Iran's armed forces subsequently warned that they would target all energy, information technology, and desalination facilities across the Middle East if their fuel and energy infrastructure were attacked.

After the US-Israel launched an attack on Iran on 28/2, Tehran nearly closed the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation. This action forced nations dependent on this shipping route to urgently seek alternatives and utilize reserves. The disruption of supplies from the Gulf caused global fuel prices to surge, leading to a risk of widespread inflation if the conflict prolonged.
The US recently increased its forces and equipment and called on allies for support to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Iran has granted "special permission" for some countries' vessels to pass, but threatened to attack any US, Israeli, or allied ships entering the area.
