AstronautiCAST, a Youtube channel managed by the Italian Space and Astronautics Association, on 23/2 released a compilation video of footage captured by cameras on the International Space Station (ISS) in the early hours of 27/12/2025.
The time-lapse video shows the flight paths of objects suspected to be Russian ballistic missiles, as well as the combat operations of air defense forces in the capital Kyiv and surrounding areas. Several explosions occurred, believed to be when Russian missiles struck targets in Kyiv and the Trypilska thermal power plant near the city.
"The video offers a rare orbital perspective on Russia's ongoing missile campaign targeting Ukraine's capital and energy infrastructure," stated United24, the Ukrainian government's fundraising platform.

Ukraine reported at the time that Russia had used 10 Iskander-M ballistic missiles and Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, along with 30 various cruise missiles and 519 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the attack. The Ukrainian Air Force claimed to have intercepted six Iskander-M and Kinzhal missiles, along with 23 cruise missiles and 474 UAVs.
The attack in the early hours of 27/12/2025 was one of the largest strikes targeting the capital Kyiv since the beginning of last winter. Numerous energy facilities across Ukraine were hit, forcing authorities to implement emergency power outages in many regions, including Kyiv.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated the strikes targeted defense industry factories and energy infrastructure used by Ukrainian armed forces, asserting the operation was in retaliation for previous attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure.
