Hoiby, 29, faced 40 charges, ranging from rape to traffic violations, with a maximum sentence of 16 years in prison during his trial today in Oslo. Prosecutors had sought a sentence of 7 years and 7 months for him.
Hoiby is the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship before she married Crown Prince Haakon in 2001. According to prosecutors, one of Hoiby's rape incidents occurred at the Norwegian Crown Prince and Princess's residence in 2018.
Hoiby's lawyer denied the most serious allegations, including the rape charges, and requested an 18-month sentence for the offenses his client admitted to.

The judge subsequently sentenced Hoiby to four years in prison for two counts of rape and 32 other charges. Hoiby did not appear in court but followed the sentencing via online video.
The victim of Hoiby's rape, who was present in the courtroom, cried as the judge read out the details of her case.
Norwegian prosecutor Sturla Henriksbo declared Hoiby's sentence a "victory" for the country's justice system, affirming that "no one is above the law".
During trials held in February and March, Hoiby's dissolute lifestyle was exposed. He stated that he was known only as the Crown Princess's son and always craved recognition.
"And that manifested through promiscuous sex, drug, and alcohol use", Hoiby said, adding that media pressure had turned him into a "monster" and "a target of hatred for all of Norway".
The rapes Hoiby was accused of occurred from 2018 to 2024, following nights of partying where he had consumed alcohol and drugs. Prosecutors argued that Hoiby engaged in sexual acts when the victims appeared to be asleep or unconscious, indicating a lack of consent.
