The Vietnamese victim who died in the 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Kumamoto province on 28/7 was a male intern affiliated with the Kumamoto Hito Zukuri union, according to VNA.
When the earthquake struck, a factory crane collapsed on the victim, causing fatal injuries. 7 other Vietnamese interns working at the factory managed to escape to safety.
The Labor Management Board and the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan have extended condolences to the victim's family. They continue to work with the involved companies, unions, and Japanese authorities to assist the family with necessary procedures.

Another injured individual is the wife of a Vietnamese worker residing in Uki city, Kumamoto province. She sustained injuries when a house wall collapsed and was hospitalized; her condition is not life-threatening.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Japan and the Labor Management Board are urgently implementing citizen protection measures, contacting unions and facilities that host Vietnamese workers in the affected area to assess the situation.
These include JMU Shipbuilding Company, Oshima Shipbuilding Company, Furi Report Company, along with Tozai Shoko, Purasessu, and Nichietsu unions. These entities collectively manage and host over 1,300 Vietnamese interns and workers.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Japan and the Labor Management Board are continuing to review and update the situation, maintaining contact with local authorities, businesses, and unions to promptly implement protection measures and support Vietnamese citizens affected by the earthquake.
As of 29/7, the 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Kumamoto province has resulted in at least 13 fatalities, numerous injuries, widespread destruction of structures, and power outages affecting nearly 37,000 households. Kumamoto experienced two earthquakes within two days in 2016, which killed 273 people.
