"You are living in the most prosperous and successful country in the world. Everyone sees our nation that way, including Chinese President Xi Jinping. I met him in China, and Chairman Xi admires us," US President Donald Trump said in an interview with New York Post journalist Miranda Devine, published on 3/6.

During his three-day visit to Beijing last month, Trump publicly praised Xi multiple times. According to the White House chief, the Chinese president also offered equally warm compliments during their private meeting.
"I had a great visit. Xi appreciated what I had accomplished. He said, 'You have done it so quickly, I have never seen anything like it'", the US president stated.
He further asserted that he began his new term when the country faced many difficulties, but he has since made the US "the most prosperous nation in the world."
These remarks are similar to the US president's post on Truth Social at the start of his trip, where he claimed that under Joe Biden, the Chinese president viewed the US as "a declining nation."
"Two years ago, America was indeed in decline. On this point, I completely agree with Chairman Xi! But now, America is the most prosperous nation in the world, and I hope our relationship with China will be more stable and better than ever!" Trump posted last month.

When journalist Devine asked how he wished his political legacy to be remembered, President Trump replied, "I want to be remembered as the one who made our country great again."
China has not yet responded to the US president's interview.
Following their talks in Beijing last month, Trump and Xi agreed to establish a "constructive strategic stability relationship" to guide bilateral ties for the next three years and beyond.
This marks the first time the phrase "constructive strategic stability" has been used for US-China relations. In his state dinner speech, Trump described US-China relations as "one of the most important relationships" in world history.
However, he concluded his visit without finding a solution for rare earth supplies, an issue that has overshadowed bilateral relations since China imposed export controls on the minerals in response to Washington's tariffs in April 2025.
