Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico is on an official visit to Vietnam from 12-14/4 at the invitation of Prime Minister Le Minh Hung. This visit marks the first by a foreign leader to Vietnam since the country finalized its state leadership positions at the first session of the 16th National Assembly. During his trip, the Slovakian prime minister is expected to meet with General Secretary, President To Lam and participate in other activities.
This morning, at the Presidential Palace, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico participated in a flag-raising ceremony, reviewed the honor guard of the Vietnam People's Army, and observed a welcoming parade. Following the ceremony, the two leaders are scheduled to hold talks at the government headquarters, witness the signing of documents, and meet the press.

Vietnam and Slovakia established diplomatic relations on 2/2/1950. In 1993, when Slovakia separated from the Czechoslovak Federation, both nations declared their intention to inherit the relationship that previously existed between Vietnam and Czechoslovakia.
Bilateral trade turnover in 2025 exceeded 1,7 billion USD, according to Vietnam Customs. Slovakia ratified the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) on 16/2/2023. As of December 2025, Slovakia had 16 active direct investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of nearly 141 million USD, ranking 47th out of 153 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.
Approximately 10,000 Vietnamese people reside in Slovakia, with about 70% holding Slovakian citizenship or long-term residence permits. The Slovakian government has recognized the Vietnamese community in Slovakia as its 14th ethnic minority.
