President Donald Trump announced today that he has canceled a planned second wave attack on Venezuela, citing a "Search for Peace" signal from the Latin American nation. This decision follows Venezuela's release of a large number of political prisoners a day prior, an action Trump described on Truth Social as "a very important and smart gesture."
Trump highlighted effective cooperation between Washington and Caracas, particularly in rebuilding Venezuela's oil and gas industrial infrastructure towards a "bigger, better, and more modern" model. The US leader revealed plans to work with major investors at the White House soon, to discuss investing at least 100 billion USD in Venezuela.
Regarding the canceled attack, Trump stated, "Thanks to this cooperation, I have canceled the previously calculated second wave attack plan, as it seems no longer necessary." He added a cautionary note: "However, all ships must remain in position to ensure safety and security," seemingly referring to his decision last year to blockade the waters off Venezuela.

On 8/1, Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez announced the immediate release of a large number of Venezuelan and foreign citizens. This move, aimed at fostering "peaceful coexistence," marks the first prisoner release since Vice President Delcy Rodriguez became interim president.
Rodriguez stressed that this decision was a "unilateral gesture" to strengthen national unity and stability amid "external pressures." He also affirmed it was not a compromise with extremist forces within the country.
The White House credited President Trump with contributing to the prisoners' freedom. This came after "Operation Absolute Resolve" on 3/1, which resulted in the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
