US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social on 25/3 that his meeting with China's esteemed President Xi Jinping, initially delayed due to the campaign in Iran, has been rescheduled. The pivotal meeting will now take place in Beijing on 14-15/5.
Trump stated that representatives are finalizing preparations for the "historic" visit, an event he greatly anticipates. He also revealed that President Xi and his wife are expected to visit Washington this year.
The US leader had initially planned to visit Beijing in late March or early April. The primary goal was to foster the rebuilding of trade relations between the world's two largest economies. Trump and Xi previously met in South Korea in 10/2025, where they reached an agreement to de-escalate trade tensions.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated on 25/3 that the campaign targeting Iran could extend for another 4-6 weeks. However, she did not confirm if the conflict would conclude before the rescheduled visit. Leavitt added that Chinese President Xi Jinping understood and accepted the US's request for postponement.
The decision to delay the visit comes as the Iran conflict escalates Middle East tensions. This situation drives energy prices to multi-year highs and raises concerns about global supply disruptions, particularly if the Strait of Hormuz is affected.
Analysts suggest that China may hold an advantage in negotiations when Trump arrives in Beijing. This is especially true as Washington faces challenges in determining an exit strategy for the conflict and lacks support from traditional allies.
This upcoming visit will mark Trump's first trip to China in 8 years. US-China relations still face numerous disagreements, ranging from trade and access to strategic resources to the Taiwan issue. While both sides might reach some goodwill agreements, deep-seated differences are unlikely to see significant progress.
