US Second Lady Usha Vance has given birth to her fourth child, a son named Alec Neel Vance, marking a rare instance of a sitting US vice president having a child while in office.
The baby was born at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland. Vice President JD Vance announced the news on social media platform X on 19/7, stating, "Usha and the baby are healthy. Our children are very excited to meet their new baby brother".

Vance, an Ohio native, and Usha, the daughter of Indian immigrants, met while attending Yale Law School, where both graduated in 2013. Alec joins three older siblings: Ewan, born in 2017; Vivek, born in 2020; and Mirabel, born in 2021.
The birth aligns with Vance's public stance on family growth. At an anti-abortion rally in 1/2025, he stated, "I want America to have more children". Many members of President Donald Trump's administration support large families. "We are the most pro-family administration in history. Congratulations", the White House posted on social media after the Vances announced in January that they were expecting another child.
However, the US administration has yet to fulfill Vance's commitment made at that rally: to help reduce the cost of living to make life easier for families with young children.
