Vietnamese citizens not recorded as casualties in Japan earthquake

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that no Vietnamese citizens have been reported as casualties in the 7,1-magnitude earthquake in Kumamoto province, southwest Japan.

Following the earthquake on the afternoon of 28/7, Vietnamese representative agencies in Japan contacted local authorities through the International Boards of Kumamoto, Kagoshima, Oita, and Miyazaki provinces, as well as Vietnamese associations in the affected areas. This was done to assess the situation and prepare timely protection measures for Vietnamese citizens impacted by the earthquake, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The earthquake in Kumamoto province, located on Kyushu island, caused human and property damage in the area. To date, no Vietnamese citizen casualties have been reported.

Through Vietnamese associations, particularly in Kumamoto province (Uki city and Hikawa town, the earthquake's epicenter), Vietnamese representative agencies in Japan conveyed their condolences and encouraged residents to remain calm, complying with local government guidelines for evacuating dangerous areas.

In the coming days, Vietnamese representative agencies in Japan will continue to coordinate with local authorities to monitor the situation. They will also maintain contact with Vietnamese associations in the area to protect Vietnamese citizens in distress or provide emergency assistance.
