The A-segment car segment started 2026 with total sales of 527 units, a decrease from 649 units in december 2025. During the peak pre-Tet shopping period, purchasing power for small urban cars continued to weaken, reflecting a declining appeal of this segment in recent years.
Hyundai i10 maintained its leading position with 364 units sold in january, capturing nearly 70% of the A-segment market share. Compared to 381 units in december 2025, i10 sales saw a slight dip, indicating the model retains a stable customer base despite the shrinking overall segment. In 2025, i10 achieved total sales of 3,358 units, significantly higher than its competitors, solidifying its role as the A-segment's flagship model in Vietnam.
Toyota Wigo ranked second with 163 units, a sharp decline from 232 units in late 2025. Despite its modest sales compared to the i10, the Wigo remains a key contender in the segment due to its brand advantage and low operating costs. However, the decline indicates increasingly limited purchasing power among customers seeking small cars.
Kia Morning sales figures are no longer reported individually for 2026. Previously, the model sold 36 units in december 2025 and a total of 299 units for the entire year. Starting this year, Thaco, the distributor of the Kia brand in Vietnam, stopped releasing detailed sales figures for individual small car and sedan models like the Morning, K3, K5, or Soluto, instead grouping them under "other cars". In january, Kia's "other cars" group sold a total of 257 units.

Overall, the A-segment car market continues to shrink as consumers increasingly shift towards small high-riding vehicles or electric cars, which offer better features, more space, and lower running costs. Early 2026 sales figures show this market heavily relies on a single leading model, while other options are increasingly fading. If the current trend persists, the A-segment will remain one of the most niche segments in Vietnam's oto market in the coming period.
