The 2026 Audi Q3 has debuted with several new features, most notably changes behind the steering wheel—a design choice that numerous automotive publications have highlighted.
The right side of the steering wheel now controls driving modes. This adds complexity to the left-side controls, which handle everything from lights and turn signals to wipers and other functions.
Instead of using traditional stalks like many other cars, Audi has integrated all these functions into a static panel behind the steering wheel.
These controls also operate differently than usual. Instead of the typical up-down or push-pull motions, the wiper control, for instance, is a small wheel.

Many believe this solution could be problematic. Drivers might accidentally activate the turn signal when intending to turn on the headlights, or switch on the wipers instead of the fog lights. While Audi aims to simplify things, more features also mean more opportunities for errors.
Other automakers, including Mercedes, General Motors, and Ford, have employed or are currently using similar designs.
Not everyone opposes the new design. In a Reddit thread, most comments indicated no issues with understanding the layout. "It's actually a good design," one user commented, garnering agreement from others.

Eliminating the gear stalk has freed up space in the center console for two cupholders and a wireless charging pad. The Q3 also features a new 12.8-inch infotainment screen and an 11.9-inch instrument cluster.
The Q3's exterior also boasts updates. It has a wider grille and digital daytime running lights with a pixel design positioned above the main headlights. Customers can choose from four different light styles and customize the approach and departure animations. Digital Matrix LED headlights are situated below. The car also features a light-up Audi logo and digital OLED taillights.
Audi offers various powertrain options, including gasoline, diesel, and PHEV. The 2026 Audi Q3 is slated to launch in Germany in October, starting at 51,300 USD, with other markets following in early 2026. The car will be produced at plants in Ingolstadt, Germany, and Gyor, Hungary.
