Avoiding a roadside vehicle, car crashes heavily into vehicle ahead

A car traveling at 80-85 km/h swerved to avoid a roadside vehicle but failed to brake in time, colliding with a line of stopped cars ahead on 20/2.

An incident occurred on the Long Xuyen bypass road when a car, moving at approximately 80-85 km/h, encountered a sudden obstruction. A vehicle unexpectedly pulled out from a house on the right side of the road. The driver of the first car reacted by swerving sharply to the left to avoid the emerging vehicle.

However, a line of stopped vehicles was immediately ahead. Due to the short distance, the driver could not brake in time and had to swerve back to the right. This maneuver resulted in a collision with the vehicle directly in front. The extent of any injuries or fatalities from the crash is currently unknown.

Driving experts emphasize the importance of maintaining an appropriate speed, observing far ahead, and scanning both sides of the road. It is also crucial to keep a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead. When a vehicle from a side road has already encroached onto the main road, drivers should proactively reduce speed and yield rather than attempting sudden evasive maneuvers. Swerving sharply at high speeds can easily lead to loss of control or insufficient time to react to unfolding situations.

According to Decree 168/2024 on road traffic violation penalties, a driver failing to maintain a safe distance is subject to a fine of 2-3 million dong. If this violation causes an accident, the penalty increases significantly to 20-22 million dong, in addition to a deduction of 10 points from the driver's license.
