Avoiding an SUV's lane change, tanker truck pushes car a long distance

A tanker truck swerved, striking a car sideways and pushing it a considerable distance, on 17/8 on QL 18, Dai Yen.

The traffic incident occurred when an SUV cut diagonally from the shoulder into the lane near the median. At that moment, a tanker truck and a car were approaching from behind. Instead of braking to slow down and avoid the SUV, the tanker driver immediately swerved to the right lane, maintaining speed. At close range, the front of the tanker hit the car forcefully, spinning it sideways and pushing it for nearly 100 meters.

A similar incident: a truck made an erratic lane change and pushed a car on Thanh Tri bridge, Hanoi, 12/2025. Video: CTV

For drivers of large vehicles with many blind spots, such as tanker trucks, it is crucial to never swerve sharply or change direction suddenly on high-traffic, high-speed roads. If a vehicle suddenly pulls out in front, drivers should reduce speed by braking instead of attempting to swerve sharply.

Simultaneously, other vehicles should avoid driving parallel to or directly in the front blind spots of large trucks, tanker trucks, or container trucks. If in this zone, actively accelerate to pass completely (when conditions allow) or reduce speed to fall back. If unfortunately caught in a situation where another vehicle pushes you sideways, do not panic and swerve sharply or brake suddenly to try to stop the large vehicle's momentum, as a tanker truck has significant inertia. At this point, hold the steering wheel firmly, release the accelerator, and observe the direction of travel to minimize the risk of rollover.
