On 13/6, during a patrol along the Hanoi - Nghe An expressway at Km324, a task force from Highway Traffic Police Team 3 (Department 6, Traffic Police Department) observed a bus stopped in a traffic lane, allowing passengers to exit for a restroom break.
Notably, this section of the expressway has only two lanes and no emergency shoulder. Several vehicles behind the bus were forced to swerve abruptly to avoid the stationary vehicle. While the bus had its hazard lights on, it failed to place warning signals at the regulated minimum distance of 150 meters.
Authorities promptly directed the vehicle to the nearest interchange for processing. The driver was fined 13 million dong and had 6 points deducted from his driving license.
According to the Traffic Police Department, expressways operate at high speeds, making improper stopping or parking extremely hazardous. When a vehicle unexpectedly appears in a traffic lane, following drivers may lack sufficient time and distance to react, particularly during periods of heavy traffic or reduced visibility.
Authorities advise bus drivers to proactively plan appropriate rest stops for long journeys, prohibiting passengers from boarding or alighting on expressways outside designated areas. Additionally, all drivers on expressways should maintain a safe following distance, observe traffic far ahead, and avoid tailgating to ensure adequate reaction time for unexpected road situations.
