BYD Vietnam executive aims to expand coverage, enhance user experience

BYD Vietnam will establish a global-standard dealership network, with five new dealerships expected by mid-2026, according to COO Vo Minh Luc.

After nearly two years in the Vietnamese market, BYD will operate a system of nearly 35 dealerships nationwide distributing new energy vehicle models by the end of 2025. As the brand continues its development, VnExpress spoke with Vo Minh Luc, Chief Operating Officer of BYD Vietnam, about the company's direction, vision, and strategy for building a long-term development foundation in the domestic market.

Asked about the sales performance of BYD vehicle models since the company officially began distribution in Vietnam, Luc stated, "The Vietnamese automotive market is entering a clear shift towards new energy vehicles. BYD sees this as a market with significant potential in Southeast Asia."

By the end of 2025, the hybrid vehicle segment in Vietnam recorded impressive growth, with total sales exceeding 15,000 units compared to nearly 10,000 units in 2024. Additionally, pure electric vehicles achieved sales of over 150,000 units in 2025.

"After nearly two years in the Vietnamese market, BYD's new energy vehicle models have received positive attention from both individual users and businesses. We have delivered over 5,000 vehicles to domestic users and served over 105 corporate clients, including transport companies, shuttle services, and ride-sharing business models," Luc said. He noted that corporate clients prioritize BYD's new energy vehicles due to their trust in the products' technology and operational capabilities. This customer group has high standards for operating costs, durability, and vehicle utilization efficiency.

BYD considers these initial results positive and aligned with the company's long-term development roadmap. Instead of focusing on short-term growth, BYD aims to build a solid foundation in its dealership system, services, and customer experience before entering a phase of strong expansion.

Regarding sales targets for 2026, Luc explained, "By the end of last year, we offered 10 new energy vehicle models in Vietnam, spanning various segments with both pure electric and hybrid options. This factor has contributed to BYD's remarkable sales growth."

He emphasized that 2026 is a crucial phase in BYD Vietnam's development strategy. "Beyond expanding our product portfolio, the company will focus on increasing market coverage and enhancing the customer experience. We aim not only to boost sales but also to build a sustainable new energy vehicle ecosystem. This includes products, distribution systems, after-sales services, and technology experience activities."

BYD Vietnam anticipates stable sales growth in 2026, particularly for models accessible to a wide range of users, such as pure electric SUVs and MPVs. Concurrently, the company will expand cooperation with transport businesses and service fleets. To achieve this plan, BYD will introduce four entirely new models to offer more choices to users. The first model, a B-segment pure electric hatchback, will be introduced by BYD in April.

Discussing plans for expanding the distribution system in 2026, Luc stated that by the end of 2025, BYD Vietnam will have a system of nearly 35 dealerships nationwide, making new energy vehicles more accessible to users. This year, BYD plans to expand its dealership network, focusing on areas with high urbanization rates and significant travel demand.

"Our goal is to build a chain of BYD global-standard dealerships, including showrooms, technology experience zones, and technical service centers. We expect about five more dealerships to become operational by mid-2026, extending from the Mekong Delta to the northern region," he added.

Regarding after-sales service and customer care plans for the coming year, Luc emphasized, "BYD recognizes that user satisfaction after purchasing a vehicle is the decisive factor for the brand's sustainable development. We consistently maintain stringent after-sales service standards across our entire system."

At its 4S dealerships, BYD boasts global-standard facilities and equipment for vehicle maintenance and inspection. The technical team is well-trained, and international-standard service procedures are always ready to serve users. The delivery process for new energy vehicles is also strictly inspected by BYD. The company applies a general warranty policy for vehicles of six years or 150,000 km. Components related to the battery, electric motor, and electric motor controller are warranted for eight years or 160,000 km.

When asked about BYD's aspirations for its brand position in Vietnam next year, Luc responded, "2026 is considered an acceleration phase for the BYD brand in Vietnam, as the new energy vehicle market enters a clearer development cycle."

"Beyond sales targets, we will gradually build a strong brand position, aiming to become a top 2 leading new energy vehicle brand in Vietnam. This goal is based on two factors: product quality and service quality, which are the results of systematic investment in technology, product portfolio, distribution system, and after-sales," he stated. Luc believes that as the market grows, users will prioritize brands that offer practical, stable, and long-term usage value.

Discussing plans to expand the distributor system this year, Luc mentioned, "According to the plan, BYD Vietnam will have approximately 40 showrooms by 2026. In the early part of this year, the number of showrooms will reach 37 locations nationwide."

"Our expansion is not just about quantity; it focuses on operational quality. All BYD showrooms are built to the company's global standards, ensuring consistency in brand image, sales processes, and technical services. Through this system, BYD will reduce the distance between products and customers, enhancing service capability in urban areas and rapidly developing provinces and cities," Luc explained.

In an increasingly competitive market, BYD's plan to enhance customer experience involves, "Real-world experience is crucial for customers to fully understand the value of new energy vehicle models."

"This year, we will intensify large-scale experience programs. Starting in March and April, the nationwide BYD system has organized hundreds of experience events at dealerships, allowing users to access and experience the technology. At these events, guests receive detailed consultations on operating costs, battery technology, safety systems, and smart features of BYD vehicles," Luc elaborated.

Additionally, the company develops customer care programs, after-sales support, periodic inspections, technical consulting, and assistance, helping users maximize vehicle efficiency during use. Through these activities, BYD Vietnam aims to build a complete customer experience journey, from before purchase throughout the product's lifespan.
