The incident occurred on 22/5 when a young man arrived at a charging station to power up his pink Wuling electric vehicle. He found all charging spots occupied, with two vehicles blocking the bays without actively charging.
Initially, the young man remained calm, parking his vehicle by the roadside to wait. However, after a prolonged period with no owners appearing, his patience wore thin. He retrieved a fire extinguisher from his trunk and began smashing the two vehicles that were occupying the charging spots without being plugged in.
Frightened bystanders immediately called the police. Even after officers arrived and despite their efforts to intervene, the young man got into his own vehicle and rammed the two cars.
The incident has since gone viral on Chinese social media, sparking a divided public opinion with both praise and criticism for the young man's actions.
"You did a great job! I still see cars like this occupying charging spots without actually charging. I've wanted to do this for a long time but never dared. You accomplished what I couldn't!", one commenter stated.
"I completely understand him! Every time I ride my electric motorcycle home after work, the charging stations in the parking lot are occupied by motorcycles that aren't charging. I've thought about marking those vehicles, but I only ever dared to think about it. This guy actually did it!", another person admitted.
"Have the two car owners who blocked the charging spots learned their lesson now? Let's see if they still block parking spaces like that!", a user questioned.
While blocking charging spots is inconsiderate, the young man's destructive actions could lead to criminal charges, as it constitutes intentional property damage. If the value of the damage is substantial, he could face imprisonment. In addition to covering the full repair costs for both vehicles, he might also acquire a criminal record.
