The disparity in the C-segment sedan market became increasingly evident in the first half of 2026. The Mazda3 alone accounted for about 70% of the segment's total sales, selling nearly 2.4 times more units than its three closest competitors combined.
The Mazda3 maintained its segment lead with cumulative sales of 1,566 units in the first six months of the year. It was also the only C-segment sedan to consistently achieve average monthly sales exceeding 250 units, while most rivals sold fewer than 100 units per month during the first half of the year.
Despite its strong performance, the Mazda3 was not immune to the overall segment downturn. In June, the model sold 190 units, an 18% decrease from the previous month, yet it remained the only C-segment sedan to record three-digit sales.
The Honda Civic secured second place with cumulative sales of 439 units. Its hybrid version accounted for 313 units, representing approximately 71% of the model's total sales, while the petrol engine variant sold 126 units. The introduction of the hybrid variant helped the Civic maintain its appeal in the segment, although a significant gap remained between it and the Mazda3. In June alone, the Civic sold 37 units, a drop of over 50% compared to the previous month.
The Hyundai Elantra ranked third, with 204 units sold during the first half of the year. Despite its numerous features and competitive pricing, Hyundai's sedan struggled to gain significant traction. In June, the Elantra recorded only 18 units, marking its lowest monthly sales figure since the start of the year.
Most notably, the Toyota Corolla Altis sold just 16 units in the first half of the year. Toyota's sedan registered no sales in May and June, having ceased distribution in Vietnam in mid-June. According to dealer information, Toyota stopped accepting orders for the Corolla Altis, and Toyota Vietnam stated it has no current plans to distribute a new generation of the model.
Meanwhile, Kia K3 sales figures have not been released since the beginning of 2026. This effectively narrowed the C-segment sedan competition to three prominent models: the Mazda3, Honda Civic, and Hyundai Elantra.

Overall, the first half of 2026 highlighted the C-segment sedan as one of the market's least dynamic segments. The Mazda3 faced virtually no direct sales challenge, while other models either maintained modest sales or gradually exited the market.
