On 2/6, around 6:15 p.m., the Seattle Fire Department reported a red Mazda on the northbound tracks at Mount Baker station. Witnesses, including passengers and security personnel, were astonished by the sight. The 70-year-old female driver exited the vehicle unaided and was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Seattle Police confirmed the driver was not intoxicated and would not face charges. The Mount Baker station sits approximately 10 meters above ground level.
According to public transit agency Sound Transit, the incident prompted power to be cut to the tracks, suspending service on light rail line 1. Rescue crews later removed the Mazda from the tracks.

Sound Transit stated the driver was using GPS when the incident occurred. While errors in road navigation are common, many questioned how the driver failed to recognize she was on train tracks, especially given that the elevated railway is distinctly separate from the road.
