The incident occurred on a busy expressway. A dashcam-equipped vehicle was traveling in the right lane, adjacent to the emergency lane. Ahead, an Innova vehicle was moving slowly and appeared to be gradually shifting into the emergency lane. Unexpectedly, the Innova's rear wheel detached and rolled into the active traffic lane. The driver of the dashcam vehicle was unable to avoid it and ran over the detached wheel. Following the collision, the dashcam vehicle's driver promptly pulled over to the emergency lane to manage the situation.
Drivers must exercise caution and awareness, especially when encountering incidents on expressways. When observing hazards such as slow-moving or stopped vehicles, or obstacles ahead, drivers should reduce speed and be prepared to brake. It is crucial to scan far ahead and broadly to identify potential risks, like objects falling from other vehicles. In the event of an unexpected incident, drivers must remain calm, avoid sudden steering that could cause danger, and reduce speed appropriately. If a collision occurs, drivers should move their vehicle to the emergency lane, activate hazard lights, and place additional warnings behind the vehicle to ensure safety for themselves and others.
For vehicle owners experiencing tire issues, especially when replacing a tire with a spare, proper maintenance is essential. Whether the replacement is self-performed or handled by a technician, it is critical to ensure that all lug nuts are tightened to the correct torque using the star pattern (cross-tightening) to prevent similar incidents.
