A traffic incident unfolded as an oto driver suddenly swerved, crossing a chevron marking to make a U-turn. Just then, a motorbike, having passed an intersection, approached rapidly. The motorbike rider, caught completely by surprise, was struck by the oto and thrown to the road. Two occupants from the oto immediately exited the vehicle to assist the victim, whose condition remains undisclosed.
Chevron markings delineate road sections not intended for vehicle travel, instead guiding traffic flow. Drivers must not cross these markings. Such sudden maneuvers create hazards for other road users and compromise overall traffic safety.
Under Decree 168/2024, oto drivers failing to observe road marking instructions face fines ranging from 400,000 to 600,000 VND. Should such a violation result in an accident, penalties escalate to 20-22 million VND, accompanied by a 10-point deduction from the driver's license.
In a similar incident, a CX-5 was observed slowly crossing a chevron marking to change direction at the Tan Phuoc, My Tho exit on 1/12/2024.
