Car spins after swerving to avoid crossing bicycle

A driver swerved sharply, causing their car to spin, after encroaching into the oncoming lane to overtake and encountering a bicycle crossing the road on 16/7 on National Highway 32, Thanh Son.

The traffic incident involved a white car speeding into the oncoming lane to overtake. Suddenly, a cyclist directly in front of a dashcam-equipped car changed direction, moving across the road. The driver of the white car quickly swerved towards the road shoulder to avoid the cyclist.

The sharp swerve and sudden braking caused the white car to spin 180 degrees, facing the dashcam-equipped car. Fortunately, the dashcam driver reacted in time, avoiding a collision.

Driving tips: Drivers should look ahead approximately 12 seconds of travel time. This duration allows enough time to detect slow-moving vehicles or those changing direction, enabling timely reactions. It is advisable not to overtake when there is a junction ahead or a slow-moving vehicle on the road shoulder. Drivers should honk and flash headlights to warn others, only overtaking when safety is ensured.

When a car brakes suddenly at high speed, it can lead to fishtailing. Slamming on the brakes while the vehicle is unbalanced will cause the wheels to lose traction completely, making the car spin faster.

Another instance of a driver losing control occurred at noon on 12/5 on Au Co street, Tan Phu ward, TP HCM. A car reversing from the sidewalk onto the road unexpectedly accelerated, spun, knocked down a sign, and then hit the rear of a truck stopped at a red light.
