On 9/7 in Van Xuan, a motorcyclist, distracted by his phone and not wearing a helmet, crashed head-on into a car. The incident occurred as the car, equipped with a dash cam, was signaling a left turn but had not fully cleared the lane. The man on the motorbike, simultaneously riding and using his phone, rode directly into the car's front.
The impact propelled the man forward, causing him to fall onto the road with his motorbike pinning him. His phone flew towards the car's windshield. The motorcyclist sustained injuries.
This incident highlights the dangers of distracted driving. Drivers must never use phones while operating a vehicle, especially motorcyclists who require full concentration to maintain balance. The risk of accidents, like the one captured in the video, is extremely high, endangering both the driver and other road users.
Under Decree 168/2024, using a handheld phone while riding a motorbike carries a fine of 800,000-1,000,000 dong and a deduction of 4 points from the driver's license. If this behavior leads to a traffic accident, the fine increases to 10-14 million dong.
For car drivers, particular caution is advised when turning from small, visibility-limited alleys. Drivers should stop completely to observe surroundings and only proceed when the road is clear.
A similar incident occurred on 30/1 in Trinh Van Bo, Ha Noi, where a young man, riding a motorbike with one hand while holding a phone in the other and not watching the road, collided with a cyclist, knocking them down.
