A 64-year-old driver died after being struck by a pickup truck and thrown off an overpass in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, on 31/1. The incident occurred when the driver had stopped his car in a lane adjacent to the median after its hood unexpectedly opened, obstructing his view while the car was moving.
While the victim attempted to close the hood, a pickup truck traveling in the same lane collided with the stopped vehicle. The impact threw the man over the guardrail, causing him to fall to the road below, where he died.
According to Metropoles, the driver had activated warning lights but did not use a warning triangle to alert other motorists of the hazard in time for them to avoid it.
