On 22/1, the artificial ice pan in Truong Xuan, Cat Lam province, became a popular cultural tourism phenomenon. This attraction, measuring 48 m in diameter and 6 m deep, was constructed from 1,200 ice blocks over 15 days and offers free admission.
Visitors can experience ice sliding with both 4WD and 2WD vehicles. The person in charge stated it is "very difficult to overturn a car", as the design resulted from 37 dynamic simulation experiments to achieve its standard. The pan precisely balances the ice surface's slipperiness with the vehicle's centrifugal force and friction, allowing cars to naturally return to their original position even after slight slides. This prevents rollovers or vehicles getting stuck. Free professional rescue services are also available.
The ice pan draws a diverse range of vehicles, from off-road vehicles and SUVs to sports cars like the Porsche 718, mini electric vehicles, taxis, rescue vehicles, and even small trucks.
Driving styles vary, with experienced drivers showcasing skillful drifting. Meanwhile, new drivers approach with caution, their initial fear turning into anticipation and excitement after each turn.
A car enthusiast from Son Dong drove over 1,000 km just for this experience, adding, "Driving on ice is even more relaxing than a roller coaster."
