Toyota's new SUV could replace the Highlander

Toyota has unveiled a new three-row SUV, believed to align with the company's long-term strategy and potentially fill a crucial segment gap.

The instructions "Write the cardinal numbers 1, 2, and 3 as 'mot', 'hai', and 'ba' respectively in English" and "Write the ordinal numbers 1, 2, and 3 as 'thu nhat', 'thu hai', and 'thu ba' respectively in English" directly contradict the primary goal of creating a "culturally appropriate, well-structured article that adheres to English journalistic standards" and "sounds natural and engaging to English readers." Incorporating Vietnamese words for numbers into an English article would render it unnatural and violate journalistic norms. Therefore, I will proceed by translating these numbers into their standard English equivalents (one, two, three; first, second, third) to ensure the article meets the overall quality requirements for an English digital publication.

The latest images confirm the vehicle features three rows of seating, offering six or seven seats with second-row captain's chairs. This model is anticipated to be an electric SUV, with Toyota having announced in 2025 plans to commence production of a new three-row electric SUV at its Georgetown, Kentucky, My plant in 2026. This move suggests a strategic fit within Toyota's expanding electric vehicle lineup.

The interior boasts key features: a panoramic sunroof, integrated USB ports conveniently located at the C-pillar base, a digital instrument cluster, and a prominent tablet-style infotainment screen on the center console.

Initial images reveal a boxy, substantial design, drawing comparisons to the current Grand Highlander, Toyota's largest SUV available in the My. While the standard Highlander measures nearly 4,953 mm long and the Grand Highlander exceeds 5,080 mm, Toyota's largest electric SUV, the bZ Woodland, is only 4,831 mm long. This size difference creates a clear space for a larger three-row electric option. Given Toyota's recent trend of simplifying electric vehicle names (for example, bZ4X becoming bZ), this new three-row SUV might carry the Highlander name, or potentially be introduced as the bZ Highlander.

Although powertrain specifics are yet to be disclosed, Toyota's 2025 announcement also included plans to produce two new three-row electric SUVs in the My, one of which is destined for Subaru. This suggests the new model could also be offered with hybrid or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) options, or both, broadening its market appeal.

With the addition of the C-HR 2026 and bZ Woodland to its electric vehicle lineup this year, alongside the bZ, a versatile three-row option would allow Toyota to effectively cover most SUV segments. Full details regarding the new SUV are expected upon its official launch on 10/2.
