On a narrow street, cars were parked on both sides. Other drivers had carefully staggered their vehicles, leaving just enough room for traffic to pass. Unexpectedly, a Mazda stopped against the curb, facing the wrong direction. After passengers exited, the driver reversed to park parallel to an existing car.
The driver and family then left. The space between the two parallel-parked vehicles was insufficient for the dashcam-equipped car to pass.
Drivers must follow specific rules when parking on narrow streets. If cars are already parked on the opposite side, drivers should find a staggered position to ensure sufficient road width for other vehicles. Where parking is permitted, drivers must only stop or park close to the right curb, facing the correct direction of traffic. Before leaving their vehicle, drivers should check their rearview mirrors to confirm their parking does not impede others. Violations carry significant penalties. According to Decree 168/2024, stopping or parking against traffic flow results in a fine of 600,000-800,000 VND. If this action causes traffic congestion, the fine increases to 2-3 million VND, and two points are deducted from the driver's license.
