An electric car caught fire while parked around 2 pm on 21/3 in the Gesi Fatih neighborhood, Melikgazi district, Kayseri province. Firefighters and police were dispatched after residents reported the incident.
Firefighters first covered the electric car with a fire blanket, then sprayed water from underneath. After about one hour, the fire was extinguished, but the car was rendered unusable. The brand of the electric car and the cause of the fire are currently unknown.
The specialized fire blanket for electric cars, as seen in the video, has been tested and practically applied by fire departments worldwide. Its basic principle is to isolate the fire from oxygen.
In 2021, Norway's Bridgehill company introduced this technology. Their blanket measures 6x8 meters, weighs 28 kg, and can cover various car types and models. The extinguishing procedure involves: spreading the blanket on the ground, pulling it over the burning car, and ensuring it is tightly secured to the ground. The company recommends leaving it on the car for at least 20 minutes to ensure the fire is extinguished, and only firefighters should remove it.

In March 2025, the Granite Falls Fire Department, Washington, US, used a fire blanket to extinguish an electric car fire that occurred while the vehicle was moving on Highway 92.
Car fires often produce toxic gases, releasing numerous chemicals into the environment and polluting the air with smoke during water-based extinguishing efforts. The blanket prevents this. However, the blanket is not an absolute solution, as lithium batteries in electric vehicles can burn without oxygen. Nevertheless, the blanket is effective in isolating the fire until it can be fully managed, preventing it from spreading.
