On 1/12 in Shanghai, a Nio EC6 swerved from the left, colliding with a dashcam-equipped vehicle traveling in the same direction. This caused the Nio to lose control, spin sideways, and then veer right into a concrete median barrier. The impact was so severe that the rear of the car folded and separated from the passenger cabin.
The car's safety systems immediately reported the incident. Nio staff arrived at the scene and transported the two occupants to a hospital. Both sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the manufacturer, the EC6 was not using any driver assistance technology at the time of the accident. Following the impact, the car doors automatically unlocked and the door handles deployed, allowing occupants to exit. The battery pack reportedly did not ignite or show any signs of thermal runaway or safety risk.

The EC6 is a mid-size electric coupe-SUV, manufactured in China since 2020. The latest 2025 version features all-wheel drive with two electric motors, producing a combined 482 horsepower and offering a range of up to 630 km under CLTC standards when equipped with a 100 kWh battery pack.
The vehicle's rear suffered structural damage after colliding with the concrete barrier at high speed, while the passenger compartment remained intact. A technical report on the collision indicated that the narrow upper edge of the median barrier, only about 12 cm wide, created intense localized pressure, potentially shearing off the area behind the C-pillar and the rear floor.
