VinFast Kyo: a new rival for Honda Vision

The Kyo offers a range of 160 km (with two batteries), a top speed of 64 km/h, and is priced between 30-35,5 million VND.

The VinFast Kyo is a scooter with a neutral design, primarily targeting female riders. Priced at 30 million VND (with battery rental) and 35,5 million VND (including one battery), the Kyo is positioned in the mid-range segment. In contrast, VinFast places its Viper and Kinet models, two sport-styled scooters mainly aimed at men, in the premium segment.

The Kyo measures 1.999 mm in length, 694 mm in width, and 1.130 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 1.360 mm. These dimensions are slightly larger than the Feliz model. Compared to Vietnam's best-selling scooter, the Honda Vision, which measures 1.925 mm in length, 686 mm in width, and 1.126 mm in height, with a 1.277 mm wheelbase, the VinFast Kyo is slightly larger.

The Kyo weighs about 104 kg. The Vision, at 97 kg, is approximately 7 kg lighter.

Overall, the Kyo features soft lines. Both the headlights and daytime running lights are LED. Its fairing resembles the Vero X, another VinFast electric scooter priced at 34,9 million VND, which is currently selling off remaining stock. A highlight at the Kyo's front is the plastic trim set with the company's logo.

The Kyo incorporates familiar features already present in the Vietnamese company's electric scooter models, such as a TFT speed display with Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, and a vehicle locator for parking lots. It also includes a smart key and a USB charging port for phones. On the Honda Vision, only higher-end versions offer a smart key and a combined analog and digital speedometer.

The Kyo's seat height is 785 mm, taller than the Vision's 761 mm. The Kyo's side design is similar to the Kinet, both featuring rounded shapes that taper towards the rear. This soft styling generally appeals to women.

According to the manufacturer, the Kyo's trunk has a capacity of 21 liters, slightly larger than the Vision's 18 liters. Unlike the Kinet, which comes with two batteries connected simultaneously, the Kyo includes only one battery, with additional batteries available for purchase as backups. The Kyo operates with a single battery connected at a time. The company states that with two batteries, the scooter can travel continuously for 160 km. VinFast has not disclosed the range when operating with only one battery. The cost of additional batteries has also not been revealed. Users can charge the Kyo at home or swap batteries at VinFast's public charging stations. With a full 4,8-liter fuel tank and a consumption rate of about 1,82 liters per 100 km, the Honda Vision can travel approximately 264 km. The Vision holds an advantage in continuous travel capability, while the Kyo offers the benefit of lower operating costs.

The VinFast Kyo features 14-inch front and rear wheels, a front disc brake, and a rear drum brake, similar to the Vision. The Kyo's ground clearance is 160 mm, slightly higher than the Vision's 152 mm.

The Kyo offers spacious legroom. Color options include black, blue, brown, red, and white.

The VinFast Kyo's taillights are LED, synchronizing with the headlights. In contrast, the Vision uses traditional incandescent bulbs.

The Kyo's in-hub motor, integrated into the rear wheel axle, has a maximum power output of 3 kW and a nominal power of 1,8 kW. The Vision is equipped with a 110 cc engine producing 6,59 kW. The Kyo offers responsive initial acceleration due to its instantaneous torque. While the Vision accelerates slower, it achieves a higher top speed; however, the Kyo's 64 km/h is sufficient for scooters on Vietnamese roads. The VinFast model targets urban customers, prioritizing long-distance travel, smooth and moderate engine operation, and lower charging/battery swap costs compared to gasoline. The company announced a 0-50 km/h acceleration time of 16 seconds, but real-world tests showed faster acceleration.

Priced at 30-35,5 million VND, the VinFast Kyo directly competes with popular scooters aimed at women, such as the Honda Vision (31,5-36,8 million VND) and the Yamaha Janus (29,2-33,6 million VND).
