The version used in this article is the J5 SHS-H Flagship, the most premium hybrid variant. The J5 HEV's hybrid powertrain combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor, delivering a total output of 165 horsepower and 295 Nm of torque. The vehicle is equipped with a DHT gearbox and front-wheel drive, offering two driving modes: Eco and Sport.

In terms of exterior, the Jaecoo J5 boasts a boxy design with flat lines, similar to the J7 model. A large grille seamlessly connects to the LED headlight system. The vehicle features 18-inch alloy wheels, a MacPherson front suspension, and a multi-link rear suspension.

The J5 measures 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,650 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. These dimensions for the Jaecoo J5 are comparable to B-segment CUVs like the Toyota Yaris Cross (4,310 x 1,770 x 1,655 mm, with a 2,620 mm wheelbase) and the Mitsubishi Xforce (4,390 x 1,810 x 1,660 mm, with a 2,650 mm wheelbase).

Despite its B-segment dimensions, Geleximco positions the Jaecoo J5 in the B+ segment, competing with models such as the Toyota Corolla Cross (820-865 million VND) and Mazda CX-30 (699-749 million VND). The company aims for the J5 to be a more premium option than its sibling model, the Omoda C5 (539-749 million VND).

The interior features a 5-seat configuration with synthetic leather seats, including power-adjustable front seats. The center console is dominated by a vertical 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, paired with eight Sony speakers. Other amenities include dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof, and double-layered glass. Behind the flat-bottom steering wheel is an 8-inch digital display, showing comprehensive vehicle information.

From the driver's seat, the J5 offers a wide field of view. The flat-bottom steering wheel integrates the gear selector behind it. During test drives, the chassis demonstrated good stability. Accelerator and brake pedal responses showed decent sensitivity and feedback. The HEV version's steering felt more composed and provided clearer road feedback compared to the pure electric (EV) version. Thanks to the double-layered soundproof glass, the J5 HEV offers good cabin insulation compared to competitors.

The Jaecoo J5 is the first vehicle to be assembled at the Geleximco - Chery (Omoda's and Jaecoo's parent company) joint venture factory in Hung Yen. The company expects to inaugurate the factory in Q4 this year. The J5 will be distributed in Vietnam with four versions, including gasoline, hybrid, and pure electric. The specific versions are the J5 Premium, J5 SHS-H Premium, J5 SHS-H Flagship, and J5 BEV Flagship.

Locally assembled J5 units are expected to be delivered to customers starting in August. For the most premium HEV version, the projected price is 690 million VND.
