Ford Explorer discontinued in Vietnam

The American automaker has stopped selling its largest SUV in Vietnam, with no current plans to import the new version.

The Ford Explorer, a full-size SUV, was removed from the American automaker's Vietnamese website in July. Currently, only two SUV/crossover models, the Everest and Territory, and three commercial vehicles, the Transit, Ranger, and Ranger Raptor, are listed for sale.

A Ford Vietnam representative confirmed that the Explorer has been "discontinued, with no launch date set for the new generation." Sales consultants at Ford dealerships also reported that the Explorer has been out of stock for several months after the remaining 2023 models were sold, and no new inventory is expected.

The three-row Ford Explorer was introduced to Vietnamese customers in October 2016. Imported from the US, it was initially priced at 2.18 billion VND. In early 2022, Ford launched a new version with upgraded design, features, and engine. The price increased significantly to 2.366 billion VND. This new-generation SUV generated considerable interest before the Lunar New Year, with some dealerships asking for an additional 200-300 million VND in cash, excluding accessories, for early delivery.

However, in subsequent years, the Explorer's price dropped sharply. Many Ford dealerships offered discounts of 100-150 million VND throughout 2023. In 3/2024, Ford officially reduced the price by 400 million VND to 1.999 billion VND. The American joint venture did not specify a reason for the price reduction but stated that the vehicles were all 2022 models. By early 2025, many dealerships were still selling the Explorer at significantly reduced prices, but these were 2023 models.

Only one Explorer was delivered to a customer in June, and the total sales for the first half of 2025 in Vietnam reached 131 units, representing 0.6% of the brand's total sales. Within its segment, the Explorer's price of 1.999 billion VND was considerably higher than two domestically assembled competitors: the Hyundai Palisade (priced at 1.469-1.589 billion VND) and the VinFast VF 9 (1.499-1.699 billion VND). However, it remained cheaper than the Volkswagen Teramont by about 500 million VND.
