Honda Vietnam's two-wheel vehicle development strategy

Honda Vietnam boosts electrified vehicle lines while growing traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050.

Over its 30-year journey in Vietnam, Honda has continuously diversified its vehicle offerings, progressively raising emission standards and accelerating the development of electric two-wheelers starting in 2026. Since 1996, Honda has produced over 40 million two-wheel vehicles for the domestic market, aiming to meet the diverse needs of Vietnamese consumers.

For its motorcycle lines, Honda operates three factories in Vietnam with a total annual capacity of approximately 2,75 million vehicles. The company reports a product localization rate of over 96% and sales of nearly 2,3 million units in fiscal year 2025, a 0,05% increase compared to the same period last year.

According to the Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM), Honda's sales reached 2,245,562 units in 2025, capturing 85,8% of the association's market share. By the end of Q1 this year, Honda's motorcycle sales hit 612,925 units, an increase of almost 3% compared to Q1 2025. Even as electric motorcycles become more common in Vietnam, Honda's gasoline motorcycle sales continue to grow and maintain a dominant role.

Honda Vietnam's product portfolio spans various segments, including manual, clutch, scooter, and electric motorcycle lines. The company has progressively integrated technologies such as anti-lock braking system (ABS) brakes, smartkey, eSP+ 4-valve engines, and Honda RoadSync connectivity across many of its product lines.

As part of its green mobility strategy announced earlier this year, Honda aims to become the "number one electric motorcycle brand in Vietnam". The company has introduced several electric two-wheel models, including: Benly e:, ICON e:, CUV e:, and Honda UC3. Through a project to establish battery swap and charging stations, Honda began operations in April across hundreds of HEAD stores nationwide, with battery charging stations expected to be fully operational from June.

Alongside the electrification process, starting in 2026, Honda's internal combustion engine vehicle lines will also aim to meet Euro 4 emission standards. This will be achieved through technological improvements and optimized operational performance.

To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the Japanese company has outlined three main solutions: operating factories with solar power, implementing energy-saving measures in production, and collaborating with suppliers to reduce CO2 emissions throughout the entire supply chain.

In terms of social responsibility, the Japanese manufacturer prioritizes traffic safety, collaborating with authorities to train over 27 million people annually. Since 2018, Honda has implemented a program to donate helmets and provide traffic safety training to all first-grade students nationwide. The company has distributed over 12 million standard helmets, increasing the helmet-wearing rate among children from 37% in 2018 to 85% in 2025.

Last year, Honda partnered with the Traffic Police Department to implement a pilot motorcycle riding training program for over 8,700 high school students and nearly 2,000 traffic police officers. This initiative is expanding training to over 3,1 million high school students nationwide. To mark its 30th anniversary, the company donated 408 ICON e: electric motorcycles to schools for safe riding training.
