Ford Vietnam is recalling 2,446 Explorer vehicles due to a rear suspension issue. These vehicles were manufactured between 28/9/2017 and 25/2/2019 and imported from the US. Ford Vietnam began recalling and fixing the defect from the first half of May.
According to the US joint venture, the rear toe link on affected vehicles may break. This condition can cause a rattling noise or rear wheel misalignment, leading to abnormal vehicle operation and increasing the risk of a crash.
Authorized Ford Vietnam dealerships will receive vehicles and fix the defect free of charge for owners. The solution involves replacing the rear toe link on affected vehicles. Repair time is approximately more than one day.
Ford global has not issued a "do not drive" instruction for this safety recall program concerning the Explorer. In the US, nearly 413,000 Explorer vehicles are also being recalled for a similar defect.

The Ford Explorer is currently discontinued in Vietnam, and the company has no plans for a new generation. The Explorer first appeared in 2016. It was sold through two generations before distribution ceased and dealership stock ran out in 10/2025.
The Explorer is equipped with a 2,3-liter EcoBoost engine producing 301 horsepower and 431,5 Nm of peak torque. It features a 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive (AWD).
Before the introduction of the Mustang Mach-E, the Explorer was Ford's largest and most expensive SUV in Vietnam (over 2 billion VND). It competed in the E-segment SUV category against rivals such as: the Volkswagen Teramont (2,138 billion VND), Hyundai Palisade (1,299-1,429 billion VND), and VinFast VF 9 (1,499-1,699 billion VND).
