Misjudgment leads to truck hitting motorcyclist

A motorcyclist stopped, but the truck driver misunderstood their intention and swerved, causing an accident on 18/5 in Tan Thanh.

The accident occurred when a truck driver, traveling at high speed on an empty road, failed to react to a motorcyclist preparing to turn left from the opposite direction. The motorcyclist, who initially intended to make a decisive turn, stopped upon seeing the rapidly approaching truck.

Unable to brake effectively at high speed, the truck driver swerved sharply into the oncoming lane. This resulted in a powerful collision that threw the motorcyclist a considerable distance. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

The incident underscores the importance of speed control. Drivers must actively manage their speed, especially in urban and residential areas, even on empty roads. Speed control allows drivers to handle unexpected situations. Speeding, like the truck driver did, prevents accurate assessment, even with a warning horn. A slower speed would have allowed the driver to brake safely.

Additionally, motorcyclists must also ensure safety when changing direction. Beyond signaling, they need to observe from a distance and only turn when a safe gap from oncoming vehicles is ensured.
