Motorcycle traveling near 90 km/h shakes violently, crashes between two cars

A motorcyclist unexpectedly swerved while riding close to a truck on road 379 in the Hoan Long area.

The incident unfolded on a highway, captured by a dashcam-equipped car. The recording vehicle, traveling at 86 km/h, struggled to keep pace with a fast-moving motorcycle ahead, riding in the lane next to the median. Alongside the motorcycle, a large truck was also maintaining high speed.

Suddenly, the motorcycle began to shake uncontrollably. The rider lost control, was thrown forward, fell onto the road, and tumbled multiple times. Fortunately, the dashcam vehicle braked in time, and the motorcyclist did not fall into the adjacent truck.

Motorcycle shaking at high speeds is a known issue, often caused by mechanical failures. According to Nguyen Thanh Hai, a Car Awards judge and frequent long-distance motorcyclist, the phenomenon of a motorcycle suddenly shaking uncontrollably is not uncommon. The cause typically stems from loose steering head bearings or a worn rear swingarm pivot. At low speeds, the shaking may be minimal, making the problem difficult for riders to detect. However, at high speeds, the motorcycle shakes violently, leading to a complete loss of control.

Therefore, motorcycle users must adhere to regular maintenance schedules, ensuring all components are properly serviced to guarantee safe vehicle operation.

Beyond maintenance, proper lane discipline and speed selection are vital for motorcyclist safety. In this scenario, the motorcycle should have been in the rightmost lane, close to the road barrier, assuming motorcycles are permitted on that road. For common motorcycles, a speed of approximately 60 km/h is suitable for highways with good traffic conditions and visibility.
