At a busy intersection, a young man overtook a motorcycle carrying bulky items. From a blind spot, he failed to see a car approaching from a perpendicular direction. The motorcyclist was hit hard by the car and thrown onto the road. Both the motorcycle and car sustained damage, and the young man suffered minor injuries.
When approaching an intersection, vehicles should reduce speed and observe for all potential hazards. Busy roads often have many blind spots, and speeding like the motorcyclist did poses a danger to themselves and other road users.
In this instance, the cargo motorcycle acted as a high wall, causing both the young man and the car to be in each other's blind spots, leading to the accident.
Decree 168/2024 stipulates fines of 4-6 million VND for cars and 600,000-800,000 VND for operators of motorcycles and mopeds (including electric motorcycles) who fail to reduce speed or yield at an intersection. If an accident occurs, the fine can increase to 20 million VND.
