British sports car manufacturer Lotus has unveiled the new Emira 420 Sport globally. At a time when the automotive industry is rapidly transitioning to new energy vehicles, Lotus remains committed to traditional internal combustion engines.
Upgraded AMG engine
The Emira 420 Sport retains the 2.0 twin-turbo engine from Mercedes-AMG. However, it has been refined to boost power output to 414 horsepower, an increase of 54 horsepower over the standard Turbo model and 14 horsepower more than the Turbo SE, which debuted last august.
The engine is mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, delivering 500 Nm of peak torque to the rear axle. This represents an increase of 70 Nm over the Turbo and 20 Nm over the Turbo SE. Consequently, the Emira 420 Sport accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3,9 seconds, a half-second quicker than the Emira Turbo and one-tenth of a second faster than the Emira Turbo SE, based on company tests. The new variant boasts a top speed of 300 km/h.

The interior design of the Emira 420 Sport remains unchanged from the standard model.
Optimized weight and aerodynamics
Beyond its increased power, Lotus also adheres to its "lighter is faster" philosophy. With the optional Lightweight Handling Pack, the Emira 420 Sport's weight is reduced by an additional 25 kg, resulting in a total mass of 1.430 kg. The British marque also claims this new high-performance variant generates an extra 25 kg of downforce, enhancing the Emira 420 Sport's road grip.
The Emira 420 Sport incorporates several aerodynamic enhancements and a feature inspired by the Esprit. A notable highlight is the optional removable glass roof, a first for the Emira lineup. This glass roof functions as a removable sunroof rather than a full convertible top. When detached, the panel stores neatly behind the seats.
The Emira 420 Sport's ride height is also 5 mm lower than the standard model, attributed to suspension upgrades. The interior sees minimal changes, save for a carbon fiber gear lever.
The new Lotus Emira 420 Sport starts at USD 122,900 in the U.S., representing a USD 16,000 premium over the Turbo SE's USD 106,900 starting price. Deliveries of the Emira 420 Sport are scheduled to begin in august.
