On a crowded road, a large truck signaled and immediately changed lanes, despite a passenger car traveling parallel in the adjacent lane. The passenger car, caught in the truck's blind spot, was struck and spun sideways. The car's front then collided with a smaller truck, causing it to also spin.
Both vehicles were then pushed further by the large truck while still spinning. The front of the passenger car was severely damaged; the condition of its occupants is currently unknown.
Drivers intending to change lanes must not only signal but also ensure safety before changing direction. Trucks, in particular, have many blind spots and a high potential for causing damage; drivers should limit lane changes in urban areas. Sudden lane changes can put smaller vehicles into blind spots, leaving no time to react and posing a high risk of accidents.
According to Decree 168/2024 on administrative penalties for road traffic violations, an illegal lane change causing a traffic accident incurs a fine of 20-22 million VND and a deduction of 10 points from the driver's license.
A similar incident occurred on 2/12/2025 on Thang Long Bridge, Hanoi, where a reckless lane change by a truck caused it to strike a car traveling in the same direction, spinning it into the oncoming lane.
