Road leaves many drivers 'doubting themselves'

Many cars and motorbikes encroached into the oncoming lane, making drivers in the correct lane believe they had mistakenly entered a one-way street on 22/2.

Video: CTV

On a feeder road of the Hung Yen - Thai Binh expressway, a driver with a dashcam was surprised to see many vehicles encroaching into the oncoming lane. This situation made the driver think they were the one going the wrong way, but road signs and lane markings clearly indicated the correct flow of traffic.

The expressway has two feeder roads on either side, both designed for two-way traffic, separated by a broken yellow line. As a result, many drivers have reported feeling like they were driving against traffic on these feeder roads. This is largely due to light oncoming traffic and the absence of a physical median separating the lanes, leading drivers in the correct direction to often use the entire width of the road, including the oncoming lane. This practice often leaves compliant drivers feeling 'confused' when navigating this section of road.

Therefore, drivers must always observe lane markings to understand their meaning: a yellow line separates two directions of travel, indicating that drivers should stay in their designated lane and not encroach when vehicles are approaching from the opposite direction.
