Toyota Vietnam confirmed this information, stating there are currently no plans to distribute the C-segment sedan line.
According to dealerships, customer demand for the Toyota Altis has steadily declined as the trend towards high-riding vehicles (CUVs/SUVs) has become more pronounced in recent years. Toyota Vietnam aims to optimize its business resources for high-riding models and small MPVs such as the Yaris Cross, Corolla Cross, Veloz, and Avanza. Consequently, the business plan for a low-riding, low-volume model like the Altis requires re-evaluation.

The Altis was the first Toyota model assembled domestically when the Japanese automaker arrived in Vietnam in the early 1990s. It also pioneered the C-segment sedan category, followed by the introduction of models like the Ford Laser, Mazda3, Daewoo Lacetti, Ford Focus, and Kia K3.
Over the past 10 years, Toyota Altis sales were most stable between 2015 and 2018, averaging around 3,000 to 5,000 units annually. During that period, customer demand for C-segment sedans remained relatively strong. However, after 2018, with the influx of imported vehicles into Vietnam, the market offered more choices, particularly multi-purpose vehicles and small CUVs.
As the preference for high-riding vehicles gained popularity in the market from around 2019 to the present, the appeal of low-riding, traditional sedan models like the Altis gradually diminished. Within the 600-800 million VND price range for C-segment sedans, there has been a significant proliferation of B and B+ segment high-riding models, featuring designs that appeal to the masses, spacious interiors, and comparable amenities.
In 2025, the sedan market in Vietnam achieved total sales of 48,161 units, marking a 21% decrease compared to 60,724 units in 2024. C-segment sedans alone saw a nearly 50% reduction.
The Altis sold 285 units in 2025, averaging about 24 units per month. Compared to Toyota's total sales of 71,954 units last year, the Altis's contribution was marginal, at approximately 0.4%. Within its segment, the Altis was the slowest-selling model.
The Toyota Altis sold in Vietnam currently belongs to its 12th generation, first launched in 2022. This year also marked the first time Toyota's low-riding C-segment model transitioned from domestic assembly to import from Thailand.
Despite its modest sales in Vietnam, the Altis remains a flagship product for Toyota globally. Introduced in 1966, the Altis is Toyota's best-selling model of all time, with cumulative sales exceeding 50 million units to date.
In 2025, the Altis sold approximately 980,000 units globally, ranking behind the RAV4 in Toyota's product lineup, according to Statista. When considering sedans alone, the Toyota Altis holds the number one position.
