A dramatic traffic incident occurred when a passenger car, after signaling left, swerved into the opposing lane to overtake two trucks on an uphill curve. The vehicle then veered towards the roadside. Simultaneously, an oncoming vehicle, equipped with a dashcam, was traveling at over 50 km/h. The dashcam driver, upon seeing the approaching car, steered right in an attempt to avoid it, but this maneuver resulted in a severe head-on collision. Both vehicles sustained severe front-end damage; the extent of injuries is currently unknown.
The Xpander driver in this situation violated fundamental rules for driving on winding, uphill roads by changing lanes and overtaking on a blind curve. Drivers have limited visibility in such conditions, meaning the dashcam vehicle would have been out of the Xpander driver's line of sight.
Decree 168/2024 stipulates that cars illegally overtaking in no-passing zones face fines of 4-6 million VND and a deduction of two points from their driver's license. If an illegal overtake causes an accident, the fine increases to 18-20 million VND, with a deduction of 10 points.
