Small MPVs remain a significant segment in Vietnam's automotive market. However, sales for the B-segment MPV category reached 37,958 units after 11 months of 2025, marking a 7% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. All models in this segment, except the Honda BR-V, experienced a sales decline.
The Mitsubishi Xpander continues to be the best-selling small MPV in Vietnam for 2025. With a lead of over 9,000 units against the Toyota Veloz and Avanza combined, its dominance in the segment is already secured, even before december's figures are tallied.
Despite retaining its segment leadership through november, the Xpander's sales remained largely stagnant, showing a 1% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. This model recorded the smallest sales dip within the segment, amidst a general slowdown in demand for versatile, 7-seater, gasoline-powered vehicles after several years of continuous growth.

While Mitsubishi's Xpander remains the most popular model in the broader MPV segment in Vietnam, the VinFast Limo Green has emerged as a new contender. By november, Limo Green had sold 16,146 units, closely trailing the Xpander's 17,316 units, and outselling all other models in the segment despite being available for only four months.
Toyota Avanza experienced the most significant sales decline in the segment, falling by 46%. Other models also saw decreases: Suzuki XL7 by 19%, Kia Carens by 18%, Hyundai Stargazer by 14%, and Toyota Veloz by 5%.
The Honda BR-V stands out as the only model reporting positive sales growth, increasing by 17%. Throughout 2025, all MPV models, including the BR-V, offered consistent monthly promotions, with Honda's offering covering 50% to 100% of the registration fee.
Sales experts attribute the Honda BR-V's resilience to its target market. While it carries one of the highest price tags in the segment, it also offers top-tier amenities and safety features. BR-V customers typically prioritize family use over commercial service applications, unlike many competitors. This distinction meant the BR-V was less impacted by the 2025 surge in affordable electric vehicles primarily used for ride-hailing services.
Despite its growth, the BR-V's sales volume was not dramatic. The Honda model's 3,754 units still lag more than 3,200 units behind the Veloz, which holds the third spot in the segment.
