The incident occurred when a young man, riding a motorbike without a helmet, leaned into a sharp turn directly in front of an approaching container truck from the innermost right lane. He was fortunate to narrowly avoid being hit by the container truck. However, his luck did not hold a second time. Immediately after swerving into the oncoming lane, the rider crashed head-on into the front of a car that had attempted to brake and stop.
The "street racer" fell onto the road, directly in front of the approaching container truck equipped with a dashcam. The truck driver managed to brake in time, preventing a multi-vehicle collision.
Motorbike riders changing direction must observe their surroundings and only proceed when safe, never cutting in front of cars. At intersections, especially when the light turns green, drivers should remain focused, observe, and lightly apply brakes to anticipate any unexpected situations.
Decree 168/2024 stipulates fines of VND 400,000 to VND 600,000 for not wearing a helmet. It also imposes fines of VND 14 million to VND 16 million when a motorbike changing direction causes a traffic accident.
In a similar incident, after overtaking a motorbike carrying bulky goods, a young man was hit by a car coming from a perpendicular direction on 21/1 at the Hoang Minh Giam - Le Van Luong intersection in Hanoi.
